祖籍山东省莱西市，1956年10月出生于济南市。毕业于广州美术学院中国画系，获文学硕士学位，现为中国美术家协会组联部主任，中国美术家协会理事，中国美术家协会创作中心主任，北京美术家协会理事，中央美术学院客座教授、广州美术学院客座教授，中国书法家协会会员，荣宝斋特聘专家，曾获“关山月中国画教学基金”一等奖。
2008年入选中央电视台CCTV2、《艺术市场》、《收藏》等收藏艺术界核心媒体主办的第二届“艺术之巅——强势媒体年度推荐书画名家”。
2010年5月应邀担任文化部中外文化交流中心国韵文化书画院艺术委员会副主席。
