卫天霖美术作品

生平
父亲卫璋是教书先生，对诗、书、画均有修养。卫天霖受其家庭影响，自幼喜欢书、画。由画谱入门，进而临摹清代画家傅山等的作品。中学时代，卫天霖对民间美术产生了浓厚兴趣，曾广泛搜集民间年画、彩绘、炕围画。1918年，卫天霖经河汾中学（今山西省汾阳中学）推荐，考入山西省留预备学校。1920年赴日本留学，开始在东京川端美术学校学习，1922年考入东京美术学校(现东京艺术大学)西洋画科，受教于藤岛武二。藤岛武二是较早将西方印象主义绘画语言带回日本的画家。在此期间，卫天霖认真钻研并努力研习印象主义绘画技法，成绩优异。1927年毕业后，经藤岛武二推荐进研究院深造。1928年回国。受蔡元培先生之聘任北平大学造型艺术研究会导师，后来该会改为西画系。归国后应沈尹默先生之聘在东华门北河沿的孔德学校任教，后来中法大学孔德文艺学院在阜成门外成立，又被任命为艺术部主任。1929年应蔡元培邀请任北京大学造型艺术研究会导师。1930－1933年任北京大学西画系主任、教授。1933－1947年先后在北平艺术专科学校和孔德学校任教。
1948年携全家奔赴解放区，任华北大学文艺学院教授。中华人民共和国建立后，受政府委托，创建了北京师范大学美术工艺系，任系主任。1956－1963年任北京艺术师范学院副院长。1963年调任中央工艺美术学院装饰绘画系教授。1949年以后先后任北师大教授、北京艺术师范学院副院长、北京艺术学院副院长、北京中央工艺美院教授。中国美术家协会会员。1980年在中国美术馆举办“卫天霖油画回顾展”，1998年在北京国际艺苑美术馆举办“卫天霖诞辰100周年画展”。

社会评价
卫天霖毕生从事美术教育和油画创作，是现代中国油画的先驱者之一。他早年多画人物，肖像、晚年多作静物和风景。他长期致力于将西方油画与民族美术传统相融汇的探索，尝试将民间美术的质朴特色引入自己的创作。他讲求构图，精于酣畅淋漓的用笔，喜厚涂法与透明法的交替与结合，光影交错、色彩斑斓的画面总是传达出空间、运动与生命的力量。纯正老到的堆积、点染与新鲜、真挚的感受，共同铸成了他厚重而优雅的艺术个性。出版有《卫天霖画集》。

成就

作品特点
中国西画运动史上有个非常特殊的现象，凡是游离於美术运动之外的画家，他的画艺即使高超，也无法施展他对画坛的影响力，历史也容易将其遗忘。卫天霖即是个明显的例子(当然还有李铁夫等人)。卫天霖自从由日本归国後就一直在北京从事美术教育和油画创作，生性淡泊、交游不广，独自保持着近乎封闭的作画热情，更没有参与当时纷繁复杂的画事活动。这使得他的画始终能保持一种纯净的境界，这种境界既包括审美的纯粹性，也包括作画心态的平和性。卫天霖的尊师藤岛武二曾留法、留意五载，是将法国印象派技法带回日本的名教授之一，极力提倡“东方艺术要有东方特色”的艺术观点。当时整个东京美术学校被法国外光派技法所垄断，对中国留日学生的画风也大有影响。卫天霖的印象派画风，以此为源，贯其一生。40年代後逐渐融合一些後印象派、野兽派和中国民间造型的色彩、笔法的意趣，尤其是他家乡山西泥塑、年画的趣味，形成卫天霖式的浓丽苦涩、斑驳厚重的油画风格。
